How a lifelong love of food turned into a whole way of living
Let's get one thing out of the way. I love food. Always have. As a kid, I was the one quietly finishing everybody's leftovers at the dinner table, and I regret nothing. Food has always had this way of putting me in the best possible mood, and all these years later, it still does.
But here's what took me a while to figure out. Loving to eat and loving to cook are two completely different things. I had the first one down from birth. The second one made me wait.

When the Kitchen Became Home
For most of my life, I was a foodie who barely touched the stove. Then the world slowed down, and suddenly I had time on my hands and a kitchen I'd been ignoring. So I dove in. Late nights watching cooking videos, trying something new, getting it gloriously wrong, and showing up the next day to try again.
And I fell hard. Not just for the food, but for the whole process. The chopping, the seasoning, that little moment when it all comes together and tastes exactly the way you imagined it would. Somewhere in the middle of all that, I landed on the idea that runs through everything I do now.
There's a real difference between cooking and cooking with love.
Food tastes better when it's made with intention. With care. With the people you love in mind. That one realization is where Sherry Hour began, and I haven't looked back since.
What Sherry Hour Is Really About
My cooking has a strong point of view, even if my kitchen is refreshingly low maintenance. I'm a minimalist, and proudly so. I hand cut almost everything, I keep a short list of tools I actually trust, and I'm always chasing that sweet spot where a meal is good for you and genuinely, unapologetically delicious.
No 40 ingredient recipes. No fuss. No guilt. Just real, wholesome food built for real, busy lives.
Because that's what balance means around here, and it's the word I keep coming back to. Not some impossible standard nobody can live up to, but a way of living where eating well and feeling good go hand in hand. Where feeding your family, taking care of yourself, and chasing the things that light you up all earn a spot on the same plate. You were never meant to choose between them. So don't.
My Honest Weeknight Hero
People ask me all the time what I make when the clock is against me and everyone is hungry right this second. Here's my real answer, no glamour required. Steak sandwiches.
When I'm in a crunch, I sauté sliced steak with onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and a generous hit of seasoning, then melt mozzarella right over the top. All of it goes into a toasted brioche sub, and that's the whole show. Hearty, melty, and ready in about the time it takes to set the table. My family asks for it on repeat, and it has never once let me down.
That sandwich is the entire philosophy in a single bite. Simple, satisfying, and made with love. The kind of dinner that has you texting a friend before you've even finished chewing, "You have to make this."
Pull Up a Chair
That's exactly what I want this space to be. A warm, welcoming place where good food and good living sit right next to each other, like they always should have. Whether you came for tonight's dinner or just to feel a little more inspired in your own kitchen, I'm genuinely glad you're here.
So pour yourself a coffee, take a look around, and stay a while. There's always something good cooking.
Sherry
